Penn and Teller, Fool Us is a competition for magic TV show that features magicians who perform tricks before American veteran duo Penn & Teller. Its first two seasons were hosted expertly by Jonathan Ross, and the fourth season by Fool Us Host Hannigan.
Each episode starts off with an introduction that explains the main purpose of the show. Penn & Teller come out and are seated at the center stage. They watch eager magicians will perform their acts before them in front of a a live studio audience. Following each show, Penn & Teller privately talk while the host interview the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal if they know the method used to perform the trick, in a cryptic manner, usually by using words or by writing down the method and then presenting it to the magicians in order to verify, so as to avoid divulging the secret behind the trick.
The fourth season will premiere October 5th, 2022.
The Worst 10 Penn and Teller— Fool Us Winners
Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) as well as the Penn & Teller Theater at Las Vegas (season two onward). After each performance, when Penn & Teller cannot figure out how a trick was done, the magician(s) who performed the trick are awarded a Fool Us trophy and a five-star trip for a trip to Las Vegas to perform as the opening act of Penn & Teller’s show which is also held at The Rio Hotel & Casino. The 8th season premiered on 8 October 2021.

If the trick is genuine, or if Penn & Teller are unable to figure out how it was accomplishedThe magician will be awarded a Fool Us award and the opportunity to perform as the opening act for Penn Teller’s Las Vegas show. A backstage judge who is well-versed in the art of magic, and who has seen the trick before the showand makes the necessary changes, regardless of whether Penn & Teller were fooled and, if they were, in what extent. At the conclusion of every show, Penn & Teller perform an extraordinary magic show.
For the first season, Jonathan Ross served as a temporary substitute for Penn Teller’s hosting duties but they returned for the second season. The film was shot on Fountain Studios in London, England for its first season, before relocating to the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada for its second and subsequent seasons.
The magicians who do tricks on Penn & Teller”Fool Us” are generally experienced illusionists and sleight-of-hand performers. They usually make it more difficult to understand how they pull off their trick by performing their act in the dark or creating distraction through conversation or sound effects. From Season 3 onward, from season three, the top ten performers who successfully fooled Penn & Teller are invited to return for a special episode of Fool Us in which they each get the chance to show off their tricks again and try to fool Penn & Teller again for a further $20,000 cash prize. Although they remain taciturn and motionless throughout the course during the performance, Penn & Teller will communicate with one by making subtle gestures. They may also confer with a magician who is performing and request for them to repeat a specific act or give more details.
As of 2017, Penn and Teller have published books on deception, created instructional videos on card techniqueand also toured with a magic show titled Penn and Teller: We are Fooled. Us.
